Privacy Policy
MarkdownWatcher is a local-first macOS app for opening, reading, and monitoring Markdown files. It does not require an account and does not send your documents to the developer.
Summary
- No account required.
- No tracking. The app does not track you across apps or websites.
- On-device storage only. Your app settings, recent files, and watched-folder preferences are stored locally on your Mac.
- Files stay under your control. MarkdownWatcher only accesses files and folders you choose.
- Optional notifications. If you allow notifications, the app can post local macOS notifications about file changes and auto-open events.
- No selling of data.
Information We Collect
The developer does not collect personal information from you through MarkdownWatcher. The app does not provide a sign-in feature and does not send your documents, preferences, or usage data to the developer.
Information Stored on Your Device
MarkdownWatcher stores the following information locally on your Mac so it can function:
- App settings such as appearance, theme, font size, sidebar behavior, and refresh preferences
- Recent file and watched-folder history
- Security-scoped bookmark data for files and folders you selected, used by macOS sandboxing so the app can reopen them later
- Local notification preference state and other app configuration needed for features you enable
Markdown files you open remain in the locations you chose, such as folders on your Mac or in cloud-synced storage you manage. The app reads and, when you use editing or auto-open save flows, may write to those files locally on your behalf. Those files are not transmitted to the developer by the app.
Permissions
MarkdownWatcher may request the following macOS permissions, depending on the features you use:
- File and folder access: only for files or folders you explicitly choose to open or watch
- Notifications: optional, so the app can show local alerts for watched-folder activity and external file changes
You can remove local app data by deleting the app and its stored preferences, and you can stop granting access to specific files or folders through macOS privacy and sandbox controls.
Third-Party Services
The app does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
Note: macOS and the App Store may collect information independently of the app, such as crash logs, diagnostics, download data, or aggregated usage statistics, depending on your system settings and Apple’s policies. That data is handled by Apple, not by the app developer through MarkdownWatcher.
Data Sharing
The developer does not share your personal data because the app does not collect it.
Children’s Privacy
MarkdownWatcher is not intended to collect personal information from children. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone through the app.
