Privacy Policy for SMB Wi‑Fi Analyzer (Speedtest)
Last updated: November 27, 2025
This privacy policy explains how the macOS app “SMB Wi‑Fi Analyzer (Speedtest)” handles your data. The short version: the app processes files and folders you explicitly select, and it does not send any test data or results to servers operated by the developer.
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing in connection with this app is:
Lars Pohlmann

2. What the app does
SMB Wi‑Fi Analyzer measures the transfer speed between your Mac and an SMB network share. Depending on the mode you choose, the app will either:
- Read from a file you select on an SMB share (Download‑only mode), or
- Create a temporary test file in a folder you select, write data to it and read it back (full write + read test).
All tests are performed locally on your Mac. The app does not inspect the content of existing files beyond what is technically required to measure throughput.
3. Local processing of files and folders
The app only accesses network volumes, files and folders that you choose in the standard macOS open/save panels. Access is limited to the paths selected by you and is used solely to perform the speed test.
For full write + read tests, the app creates one or more temporary test files in the selected folder. These files contain arbitrary test data and are removed automatically once the test finishes or is stopped, as far as technically possible.
4. No analytics, tracking or profiles
- The app does not include any third‑party analytics SDKs or tracking libraries.
- No personal usage profiles are created.
- No test results are sent to the developer or to third parties.
5. Network connections
The app uses your existing network connection only to communicate with SMB shares that you select for testing. It does not contact external web services or cloud APIs operated by the developer.
6. Log files and crash reports
The app itself does not transmit logs or crash reports to the developer. If your macOS system is configured to send crash logs or diagnostic data to Apple, this processing is governed by Apple’s own privacy policy. The developer may receive aggregated, anonymised crash information from Apple, without any content of your files.
7. Legal basis (EU / GDPR)
Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, the legal basis for processing local data that you provide to the app is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract / use of the app) as well as your consent expressed by selecting files and starting a test.
8. Your rights
To the extent applicable under GDPR, you have in particular the following rights with respect to personal data relating to you:
- Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
- Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
- Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU Member State of your habitual residence, your place of work or the place of the alleged infringement.
9. Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time, for example if the app gains new features or if legal requirements change. The latest version will always be available under this URL.
